Institution for the research and the prevention of Depression and Anxiety

IDEA, Institution for the research and the prevention of Depression and Anxiety is an Association without no sake of gain, recognized by the Region Lombardia, that works at national level.

It was born in 1993 to face the serious problems concerned the Mood and Behaviour- Diseases and in this field it wants to be the landmark for the sick patient, for his family, for the public opinion and for the doctors (both for the specialist and for the simple doctor).

A lot of people directly or indirectly hit by these diseases, numerous groups of Psychiatry working in the hospital and university sphere in Italy and abroad, students, housewives, pensioners, journalists, economists, managers, artists, doctors, expert in communication, and so on, support IDEA's initiatives and join it.

About 300 volunteers are already active in the Association and some Regional Committees for the gathering of the funds, active for the sensitization of the public through manifestations and conferences are growing.

About 25.000 people have got in touch with the Association in these 4 years to give and receive help.

IDEA's aims are:

To give the sick patient and his family a correct an adjourned information about the reality of Depression and Anxiety-Diseases and about the present possibility of theraphy.

To sensitize the public opinion, to create a social conscience about the problems proposed by these diseases, in that organic diseases, today curable.

To increase the consciousness of the public opinion and of Sanitary Autorities that Depression is a disease with a high vital risk, that can have, if it is not healed, devasting consequences for the individual and his family.

To contribute to a better education of the doctor through didactic initiatives addressed both to the simple doctor and to the specialist in Psychiatry (Adjournament-courses).

To propose, at the level of Public Institutions, some reforms of the psychiatric legislation now in force in our Country (law 180) and to make accessible the later medicines, that nowadays are available only in C level (paid by the patients), to everyone.

To encourage and to furnish advice to the initiatives that have as their own aim that to mitigate the uneasiness of the patients and of their families, for example the Groups of Car-Help.

To promote and to support the scientific research.
